XALPES LLC · Austin, Texas

An independent research, development and testing organization.

XALPES designs, characterizes and industrializes products and technologies — from an idea or an existing patent to a marketable product, its intellectual property and, where none exists, the technical reference that defines it.

Mission

Make performance measurable, then comparable.

Most technical programs stop at a working prototype. XALPES continues until the product is documented, protected and comparable: characterized on a bench, described in a technical file, covered by the appropriate intellectual property and, when no reference exists to compare it with, accompanied by the reference itself.

This is what led to the XRS scale: a mask's breathing resistance is easy to measure, but no reference graded its comfort. XALPES wrote one, published it openly and stated in advance the conditions under which it would be refuted.

Method

One continuous program, six steps.

  1. Analysis

Real need, technical constraints, risks, state of the art and objectives.

  2. Design

Technical solutions, material selection, architecture and concept optimization.

  3. Prototype

Mock-ups, functional prototypes, iterations and pre-series.

  4. Characterization

Testing, measurement, performance analysis and documented technical data.

  5. Protection (IP)

Patents, trademarks and portfolio strategy, coordinated with qualified IP counsel where required.

  6. Market & reference

Market study, regulatory mapping and, where none exists, the technical reference that defines the product.

Principles

The five properties we require from any reference we publish.

These are the properties XRS 001:2026 establishes for the XRS scale (Table 1). They apply to every reference XALPES publishes.

01

Traceability

Every threshold refers to a measured or published external reference, not to an author's choice.

02

Reproducibility

A third party with the same test bench obtains the same classification, without interpretation.

03

Internal consistency

External references, placed back on the scale, order themselves without inversion or overlap.

04

External conformity

Confronted with physiological limits established independently of it, the scale proves compatible.

05

Falsifiability

The document states in advance what, once measured, would invalidate it.
